4th Grade Breakfast with Books
January 15, 2012
Celebrating our Fourth Grade Writers!
Surprising details! Tiny actions! Dialogue! Thought! Setting! These were the comments fourth grade students made to one another after listening to each other’s stories during the first Writing Celebration for Waverly Intermediate fourth graders on the morning of Friday, January 13, 2012.
Eighty-six fourth graders, parents, teachers, and invited school district guests gathered in the “book room” at WIS to read their stories that they have “published”, to one another. They were celebrating their first published work this school year by reading and listening to each other’s stories. After listening to the writer share his or her story, listeners gave positive feedback to the “author”, telling them how they used the strategies they’ve worked hard on in Writer’s Workshop in their stories.
When all students were done sharing, listening, and giving feedback to one another in their small groups, they concluded the celebration by enjoying refreshments, donuts and juice, graciously provided by fourth grade parents. WIS fourth graders will be hard at work with paper and pencil, eagerly anticipating their next Writing Celebration!
